  Etz Hayyim Synagogue

  A Romaniote synagogue first recorded in the 17th century, left derelict after Chania's Jewish community was deported and drowned in 1944, then restored and reconsecrated in 1999. It functions today as both an active house of prayer, open daily to visitors of all faiths, and a memorial to the destroyed community.
